Whether you are practicing your loops on Vancouver rinks, coaching future champions in Kelowna, or cheering from the stands in Prince George, there is a distinct sense of family that binds us all together on the ice. Over the past few months, that bond has only grown stronger as skaters from across the province, the Yukon, and our neighbouring regions have been pushing boundaries, breaking personal records, and showing true sportsmanship.
Celebrating Our Recent Competition Winners!
Spring and early summer brought incredible energy to local events like the BC/YT Section Super Series Final and the high-flying BC/YT Super Series High Performance Competition. Our skaters trained tirelessly, and we want to give a massive shoutout to some of the incredible winners who stole the show over the last few months:
- Uliana Shiryaeva (Senior Women’s Champion) – Representing British Columbia, Uliana absolutely dominated the ice, earning an incredible overall score of 158.82!
- Shohei Law (Senior Men’s Champion) – Flying high for the BC/YT section, Shohei captured the event with a stunning total score of 167.99.
- Gabrielle Jugnauth (BC/YT Section) – Put on a masterclass performance to take home the gold in the Free Skate segment.
- David Li (BC/YT Section) – Delivered a breathtaking Free Skate performance, capturing a well-deserved silver medal overall.
We are also incredibly proud to acknowledge BC/YT's very own Aleksa Rakic and Wesley Chiu, who were recently named to the Skate Canada National Team for the 2026–2027 season! Seeing local talent reach the national stage is exactly what makes our skating community so rewarding to watch.
Looking Ahead: Upcoming Competitions (August & September 2026)
As we head into late summer, the 2026–2027 figure skating season officially kicks into high gear. If you want to see some spectacular live skating—or if you are a competitor looking to secure your next podium finish—here are the major events to keep on your radar across Canada for August and September 2026:
1. 2026 BC/YT Super Series Summerskate
- Dates: August 13–16, 2026
- Location: Scotia Barn, Burnaby, British Columbia
- Why it matters: This is the premier late-summer tracking event for the BC/YT region. It serves as a fantastic launching pad for athletes debuting their brand-new programs, choreography, and costume selections before the autumn Sectionals.
2. 2026 International Adult Figure Skating Competition
- Dates: September 16–19, 2026
- Location: Kal Tire Place, Vernon, British Columbia
- Why it matters: “Open to athletes of all skill levels, the event will welcome hundreds of adult skaters from around the world competing in men's, women's, pairs, ice dance, and synchronized skating.” according to Skate Canada. It is an incredible celebration of lifelong passion for the sport right in our own backyard!
3. Fall Podium Pathway Invitational (Alberta/NWT/Nunavut)
- Dates: September 25–27, 2026
- Location: Alberta (Zone 1 or 2 TBD)
- Why it matters: This competitive platform brings together top tier talent across our neighbouring prairie provinces and northern territories as they tune up their competitive edge for the new season.
