From early morning practices to cheering in packed arenas, skating here is about so much more than medals—it’s about connection, resilience, and a shared love for the ice.

At clubs like Cyclone Taylor, we see it every day: young skaters finding their confidence, seasoned athletes pushing technical limits, and families coming together to support every glide, jump, and spin. Across BC and the Yukon (BC/YT Section), that same spirit continues to grow stronger with every competition season.

A Season Full of Standout Performances

Over the past few months, skaters across British Columbia, the Yukon, and neighbouring provinces have delivered incredible performances at regional and national events.

At the 2026 BC Winter Games, athletes showcased rising talent from across the province. One standout result included:

  • Alexis Chan (Fraser River) – Gold medal performance in women’s competition

Across the broader BC/YT competitive pathway, the 2025–2026 Super Series Champions highlighted the depth of talent in the region:

  • Uliana Shiryaeva (Champs ISC of BC) – Senior Women Champion
  • Wesley Chiu (Connaught SC) – Senior Men Champion
  • Calissa Adlem – Junior Women Champion
  • William Chan (Connaught SC) – Junior Men Champion
  • Ruby Blake (Racquet Club of Victoria FSC) – Novice Women Champion
  • Elmira Tagiev (Abbotsford SC) – Juvenile Women U14 Champion

At the national level, Canadian athletes continued to impress at the 2026 Canadian National Skating Championships in Gatineau:

  • Madeline Schizas (Oakville, ON) – Senior Women Champion
  • Stephen Gogolev (Toronto, ON) – Senior Men Champion
  • Lia Pereira & Trennt Michaud (ON) – Senior Pairs Champions
  • Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier (ON) – Senior Ice Dance Champions

And in synchronized skating:

  • Team NEXXICE (Burlington, ON) – Junior Champion at the 2026 Skate Canada Cup
  • Team Ice Ignite (Ilderton, ON) – Silver medalists

Closer to home, BC athletes also made their mark nationally:

  • Alexander Ge (BC) – Novice Men’s winner at Skate Canada Trophy

These results reflect not only individual excellence, but also the strength of coaching, training environments, and club communities across Western Canada.

The Heart of the Community

What truly sets BC apart is its supportive environment. Whether you’re skating in Vancouver, Kelowna, Prince George, or a smaller community rink, there’s a shared understanding: everyone belongs on the ice.

Coaches collaborate. Clubs support one another. Skaters build friendships that last far beyond competition days.

It’s this culture that allows athletes to thrive—not just as competitors, but as confident, well-rounded individuals.

Looking Ahead: Upcoming Competitions (May & June 2026)

As we head into late spring and early summer, the skating calendar continues to stay busy across Canada. Here are some exciting events to look forward to:

May 2026

  • BC/YT Super Series Victoria Day Event (BC) – A key development competition bringing together skaters from across the province
  • Sectional AGMs & Showcase Events (BC/YT) – Celebrating the season and preparing for the next

June 2026

  • Summer Skate & High Performance Camps (BC & National) – Training-focused events that help skaters prepare for the upcoming season
  • Early Summer Invitationals (Across Canada) – Often held in provinces like Alberta and Ontario, these competitions provide valuable competitive experience heading into the 2026–2027 season

Spring and summer competitions are especially exciting—they give skaters the chance to debut new programs, test technical upgrades, and build confidence in a lower-pressure environment.

Why It All Matters

Behind every medal is a story of dedication—and behind every skater is a community cheering them on.

At Cyclone Taylor Figure Skating, we’re proud to be part of that story. Whether you’re stepping onto the ice for the first time or preparing for your next competition, you’re part of something bigger.

Here’s to another incredible season of growth, friendship, and unforgettable moments on the ice.
